GYAP 2018

The Global Youth Ambassadors Program is excited to celebrate its 10th year of programming for students by hosting the “Peer to Peer Teen Exchange Program in Germany”

Preliminary details are below:

Peer to Peer Teen Exchange Program in Germany

GYAP 2018 will provide high school participants with a unique opportunity to foster transatlantic relationships with their peers in Germany. In partnership with a variety of American and German institutions, including Amerikahaus, Deutsch-Amerikanisches Institute Nuremberg, the Atlanta-Nuremberg Sister City Committee, International Affairs, City of Nuremberg, and Goethe Zentrum Atlanta, student participants will have the best possible global learning experience.

GYAP 2018 will have the following two components:

The Leadership Academy: June 1-15:

  • Full day sessions (half day of instruction, half day of service learning)
  • German language instruction (minimum certification requirements)
  • Cultural competence training/instruction on the history and current life of Germany
  • Leadership training (teambuilding, public speaking, workforce preparedness)

The German Cultural Immersion Trip: June 16-30

  • Homestay with a local family in Nuremberg (6 days)
  • Attendance at local schools in Nuremberg, Germany
  • Site visits to cultural/historical sites in Munich, Nuremberg and Berlin
  • Site visits to American companies based in Germany
  • Official reception hosted by the City of Nuremberg
  • Cultural excursions to Munich (3 days) and Berlin (4 days)

Eligibility requirements: 10th and 11th graders in Metro Atlanta High Schools,
2.5 minimum GPA, 2 letters of recommendation
Program Fee: $2,500, inclusive of leadership academy, instructional supplies, and travel costs
